DEGENERATIVE SPINE CLINIC

Description

Disc degeneration is a disease of aging, and though for most people is not a problem, in certain individuals a degenerated disc can cause severe chronic pain if left untreated.
Degenerative disc disease in the lumbar spine, or lower back, refers to a syndrome in which a compromised disc causes low back pain. Although there is a slight genetic component to individuals who suffer from DDD, the true cause is probably multifactorial. It could be from simple wear and tear, or may have a traumatic cause.

Conditions

Spinal Stenosis- central canal or lateral canal stenosis.
Degenerative scoliosis
Degerative Kyphosis
Flat Back syndrome
Facetal arthropathy
Prolapsed intervertebral disc
Splondylitis
Spondylosis
Spondylolisthesis
S.I. Joint arthropathy

Treatment

Both Conservative and Operative.
Surgery may be recommended if the conservative treatment options do not provide relief within two to three months. If leg or back pain limits normal activity, if there is weakness or numbness in the legs, if it is difficult to walk or stand,or if medication or physical therapies are ineffective, surgery may be necessary, most often spinal fusion. There are many surgical options for the treatment of degenerative disc disease. But principally these two procedures are often combined, as a decompression may de-stabilize the spine and create the need for a fusion to add stability.

Multilevel Lumbar fixation, decompression and fusion

Open Transforaminal Lumbar
Interbody Fusion (TLIF) for Facetal
arthritis and stenosis

Dynamic Stabilization Non fusion with flexible rods

Laminectomy decompression done for simple stenosis
