STAVYA SURGICAL CENTRE
Medical Tours
Though medical tourism is a fast growing industry and yields quick fame and money, at Stavya we have always treated it with caution. The main reasons are two-fold:
- Recovery time post surgery tends to be longer as compared to other surgeries.
- We have no control over patient’s who are not from India. Though patient’s show significant improvement in function and mobility post surgery, residual symptoms of mild pain and mild numbness is normal in 30% of spine patients managed operatively or conservatively. Most of them resume their jobs or household routines in 6 weeks, but recovery cannot be yet considered complete. The sensitivity of the nerves and their corrupted memory leaves a residual symptom that usually reminds that there is something in the legs or arms. Again, though it does not bother the patient much, there is surgery related nominal stiffness. To this residual LBP gets added due to ageing, weak muscles and poor ergonomics which have left imprints due to a long duration of suffering. These symptoms are more seen or felt during the first 6- month recovery phase. That is why, we ask patients to visit us regularly for Physiotherapy and Counseling long after the surgery. This kind of necessary follow-up is impossible if the patient does not live in India and both the patient and we remain dissatisfied with the incomplete cure. However, the biggest problem with medical tourism is that travelling patient’s expect faster than fast recovery and are not willing to wait back even for the minimum recovery period. Hence, as a policy we inform prospective patients about the minimum 6 weeks recovery and follow-up period, post which they need to get in touch with us for further follow-ups. This is very much rewarding in terms of the final outcome of the treatment but logistically and temperamentally deters a lot of foreign patients. Never-the-less, we have been happy to treat many foreign nationals and NRIs who have had faith in our processes and are happy with the outcomes of both surgical and non surgical treatment.
NRI PATIENT’S TESTIMONIALS
I had a complex deformity of the spine. However due to lack of access to quality healthcare in my country and monetary issues, I could not avail of a proper treatment. My deformity was corrected at Stavya by a major spine surgery where multiple screws were put into the spine so that I can stand straight with no obvious visible deformity. An entire surgery worth 5 lakhs of rupees was performed for a much smaller amount, thanks to special consideration from the hospital. I express my gratitude for the excellent treatment that corrected my cosmetic problem as well as prevented the progression of the disorder. I can’t believe that such humility exists in India. I havewitnessed such high levels of professionalism and care at Stavya that I will not hesitate to refer Stavya to any of my family and friends.
I am 70 years old and had multiple problems for which doctors all over Saudi couldn’t find a solution. My ailments were evaluated and a perfect diagnosis of Osteoporosis and Ulnar Nerve Entrapment was made. Surgery improved my hand and the medical treatment improved my vigour and energy substantially. Now I can manage my business empire and travel across countries. Excellent care was taken by the doctors, nurses and the physiotherapist. The doctors offer much more than quality physical care, they provide holistic healing.
I was having difficulty in getting up. There was severe back pain and urinary problems. I was treated in Kenya for a urinary problem; pain killers and physio was advised but with no result. At Stavya I was told that my urinary problem was due to a spine disorder – a fact no one had been able to figure out before.I was operated for a disc and stenosis problem in my L4-L5 level. My condition improved dramaticallyin 3 weeks and the outcome was beyond my imagination. It is no exaggeration to say that the treatment in this hospital is top class. The attitude of doctors, nurses and other supporting staffs is excellent; I have visited so many hospitals, but Stavya is the best.
I had been operated upon twice in USA for my back and developed an infection. When the doctors prescribed another surgery, I was taken aback. I lost faith in them and came to Stavya. My problem was a special case and was investigated thoroughly, after which I was told that I do not need a surgery but a treatment for infection and Osteoporosis. The diagnosis was correct and I improved significantly in 3 months and became comfortable going about my daily routine. Many thanks to all of you doctors, medical and paramedical staff.
