Description

Osteoporosis is a condition of fragile bone with an increased susceptibility to fracture. Patients with osteoporosis have no symptoms until bone fractures occur. Sometimes warning signs includes severe pain and inability to do functional activities.

Conservative treatment includes

Calcium Supplements with vit. D and use of bone formation medicines or medicines that slows /stops bone resorption.
Surgical Treatments of Vertebral Fractures: depends upon the fact that there is only fracture or fracture associated with spinal cord compression. If there is only fracture then cement filling procedure (Vertebroplasty ) is a miraculous procedure under local anesthesia where the patient walks immediately following the surgery. If there is compression of spinal cord leading to weakness in legs then open surgical stabilization with screws is contemplated.
