One fine day, the CEO received a call from the head of HR.
HR Head – Good Morning ma’am, we just finished our cash count. We found fake currency notes worth 20,000 INR.
CEO – Oh, that’s too much. Why did that happen?
HR Head – Ma’am the cash counter staff at all our departments do not use the cash UV machine sensibly.
CEO – Hmmm, or may be they are too lousy!
HR Head – Yes Ma’am.
CEO – Set up a meeting with all the employees who collect cash tomorrow morning.
HR Head – Consider it done.
Next morning, the employees gather at the CEO office.
Employees – Good Morning Ma’am
CEO – Good Morning, Today happens to be a bright and fabulous day.
I have decided to give incentive to all of you, for your hard work.
Employees (smiling) – Thank you ma’am, but…
CEO – Don’t worry, its because I am impressed by your dedication.
Come take your share.
She gave 1000 rupees to each one of them.
One of the employee said,
Ramesh – Ma’am these notes look fake, they wont be of any use to me. Could you please change them!
Mukesh – Sorry ma’am but these are torn!
Suresh – Ma’am these are also…
CEO – Ok, before someone else starts blaming me, let me tell you that all these are fake currency notes collected by you. If you can’t take them home, why should i?
Employees felt embarrassed and expressed their grief.
Since then, says Mrs. Amita Dave, “We haven’t received a single fake note, its been two years!”
A fable for the management community, moral of the story,
‘Managing others by force is a bad way to go, lead by example.’
