Description
A spinal cord injury (SCI) refers to any injury to the spinal cord that is caused by trauma instead of disease. Depending on where the spinal cord and nerve roots are damaged, the symptoms can vary widely, from pain to paralysis to incontinence.
Spinal cord injuries are most often traumatic. Motor are the most common cause of SCIs, while other causes include falls, work-related accidents, sports injuries, and penetrating trauma such as stab or gunshot wounds. Surgeries for trauma are done frequently at stavya.
At present the multifaceted rehabilitation program is planned for them and coordinated locally at their home with the help of local available physiotherapist and need based utilization of other aspects of rehabilitation of paraplegics. A complete rehabilitation unit is the dream of stavya. This would be realized soon. This will include specialist section of occupational therapy, physiotherapy, assistive technologies therapists, neurologist, psychiatrist, vocational therapist, family counselor, social worker and orthotics specialist.
